WITH SHANE WEEKS OF THE SHINNECOCK NATION

Shane Weeks is a member of the Shinnecock Nation and is involved with multiple organizations across the East End of Long Island. As an artist, traditional dancer, drummer, hunter, fisherman, cultural consultant and educator, he has spent several years traveling to and working with Indigenous communities around the world, and has always felt a connection, curiosity, and interest in the tree and plant world. What has inspired Shane the most is the traditional Indigenous teachings about trees and plants. How they are used medicinaly, in traditional recipes and in cultivation. Many of these teachings have been forgotten by mainstream society, but it is something he hopes to help bring back to today's consciousness.
